Jammu Srinagar National Highway Traffic update 22.03.2017

Jammu Srinagar National Highway Traffic update  22.03.2017

The narrow width of the NHW at Mehar, Panthyal and Ramsoo and over all condition of the road between Ramban-Jawahar Tunnel and Zig-Jawahar Tunnel makes the regulation of traffic a cumbersome job. In view of the narrow width of the road at the above said locations plying of two-way traffic on the NHW is not feasible.

In view of the above subject to fair weather/ good condition of the road and clearance from Traffic Control Units, only one way movement of traffic shall be allowed on the NHW on 22.03.2017. Under this plan, movement of traffic (excluding Trailers/multi-axle vehicles) shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu side in a regulated manner. Movement of traffic (including convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF etc.) shall be allowed from Levdora (Qazigund) from 0700 hours and all these vehicles shall cross Jawahar Tunnel by 1300 hours positively. However, in order to avoid congestion of traffic on the NHW, cut off timing for all Jammu bound vehicles shall be 1000 hours at Pantha Chowk (Srinagar) beyond which no Jammu bound vehicle shall be allowed to cross the said location and instead they shall be parked at appropriately in an orderly manner so that no hindrance is caused to the movement of normal traffic.

No movement of traffic including that of convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF etc. shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar side on 22.03.2017 under any circumstances to ensure hassle free movement of traffic on the NHW.

Keeping in view the bad weather condition, commuters are requested to ensure that vehicles are not parked in any landslide/avalanche/vulnerable zones of NHW especially from Ramsoo – Jawahar Tunnel – Levdora under any circumstances. All the vulnerable/avalanche prone zones should be kept free from any kind of traffic to avoid any eventuality.

They shall also contact Traffic Police officers viz. IGP Traffic J&K (9419192362); SSP Traffic, Rural Kashmir (9419091281); SSP Traffic NHW (9596304020); Dy.SsP Traffic Udhampur/Reasi (9419013015); Ramban (9419185925); Banihal (9419233978) and Dy.SP Traffic, Kulgam/Qazigund (9796959260) in case of any assistance en-route.

It may be pertinent to mention here that the weather is not behaving well and it is raining in Jawahar Tunnel – Ramban road stretch since today evening. As such the above traffic plan can be reviewed tomorrow and any further decision vis-a-vis movement of traffic on NHW shall be taken after assessing weather and road condition afresh. People in general and commuters in particular are requested to co-operate with the Traffic Police as their “safety is our concern”.
