Jio Welcome Offer ends tonight, Here’s everything you need know about your Jio Connection

This time tomorrow you will not be a Reliance Jio Welcome Offer user anymore. Don’t be alarmed, nobody is taking your precious free internet away from you. You will still be able to use ‘unlimited’ free 4G data and free voice calls till March 31, 2017 as promised by Mukesh Ambani, however, with the dawn of new year a couple of things will change about how you have been using your Jio SIM.

Ambani, in his address to Reliance Jio customers, had said that the company will start a new offer named Happy New Year from December 4, which it did. The people who get a Jio SIM after December 4 are members of Happy New Year Offer, which gives them free data and calls till March 31. So what happens to the Welcome Offer users? By now everyone knows that every Jio user will get free 4G data and voice calls till March 31, so no worries there. Still a few things will change tomorrow, we tell you what and why about it

  1. All Welcome Offer users will be shifted to Happy New Year Offer on January 1, which means every person who got a Jio SIM before December 4. You don’t need to do anything, your service will not be interrupted either.
  2. All Jio users will get free 4G data and free voice calls till March 31.
  3. Welcome Offer users may have been enjoying 4GB of free data everyday till today, but that changes tomorrow. Under the Happy New Year offer users will get 1GB of 4G data per day, which according to the company is still a lot considering most people don’t use that amount of data every day. Once you cross 1GB data, your speed will fall to 128kbps.
  4. If you have to have more data, you will have to pay for it. Reliance Jio is offering booster packs which will reinstate your speed to 4G and also add some more data to your account.
  5. The STV 51 will give you 1GB 4G data for 1 day. The STV 301 will cost your Rs 301 and give 6GB of 4G data for 28 days.
  6. All Jio apps will remain free till December 31, 2017. This means you can watch movies, TV shows, listen to music, make video calls and more from Jio apps without paying any money till the end of next year.

Reliance Jio’s free services have already triggered other telecom operators to cut costs on their tariff plans, we can expect Jio rivals to launch more affordable plans in the next three months. Jio, which plans to subscribe 100 million users by March 31, has struggled to maintain its data speed across the country. Jio is expected to lose some of his customer base once it moves to paid plans. So the Happy New Year offer also gives Jio some more time to improve and expand its infrastructure so when it launches paid plans after March 31, users don’t leave it for lower data speeds compared to its rivals like Airtel and Vodafone.
