KVK Doda organized Kharif Kissan Mela at Berreru Krishi Vigyan Kendra Doda,

SKUAST Jammu organized one day Kharif Kissan Mela at village Berreru Tehsil Bhallain  which Dr K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu was the chief guest and Sh. Anwar Bandey SDM Bhaderwah was the guest of honour. Dr Amrish Vaid, Programme Coordinator KVK Kathua; HK. Razdan, Chief Agriculture officer; Bipan Pandita Chief Horticulture Officer; Dr Tariq Parvez, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; Rajesh Badyal DDM NABARD were among the other esteemed guests.

The mela was aimed at providing exposure to the farmers of latest technologies and ongoing activities of University, Agriculture and allied departments, besides providing them a platform to share their experiences and constraints pertaining to agriculture and allied sectors. More than 400 farmers, farm women and rural youth from different villages of Doda participated in the mela. Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu apprised of the importance of Kissan Mela in the transfer of agriculture technology and in creating awareness among the farming community. He assured the farmers of full support by KVK Doda in agriculture and allied sectors. He informed keeping in view the important role played by KVKs, the Ministry of agriculture Govt. of India has decided to strengthen the KVKs. In this direction, the designation of Programme Coordinator has been changed to Senior Scientist cum Head.

Besides, Subject Matter Specialist has also been re-designated as Scientist. Sh. Anwar Bandey, SDM Bhaderwah lauded efforts of the KVK in organizing mela in the rural area, rather than at the district headquarters. He pinned hope that the event would make farmers to get acquainted with latest agriculture technologies, schemes of the agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, sericulture, floriculture, fisheries etc. being run by the different departments for small and marginal farmers of the district. Exhibition stalls were laid out in the mela by the KVK Doda, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences SKUAST Jammu, Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Sericulture, Floriculture, NABARD, Forest depicting their respective technologies, schemes and success stories. Farmers visited the stalls with great enthusiasm and interacted with the officers for clarification of their queries.

A Kissan Ghosti was also organized in which farmers, Farm women and rural youth interactedface to face with the scientists of KVK, SKUAST Jammu and District Heads of agriculture and allied departments regarding their problems. Farmers inquiredabout diseases and insects pests of maize, paddy, vegetables and fruits, which were answered to their satisfaction by the scientists. Farmers also asked about the schemes of agriculture and allied departments, replies towhich were made by the district heads of the departments. An important outcome of the event was the farmers’ feedback which the researchers and officers directly obtained from the farmers. A crop show cum competition was also organized in which M.D Sharma, Mohd Ashraf Zargar and Shabudin farmers got prizes for their outstanding smaize, chilly and garlic crop samples respectively brought to the show. Farmers were also honoured for their contribution in agriculture diversification, community mobilization, rural leadership etc. Dr B. Brahma, Dr Amit Singh Charak, Dr Narinder Paul, Dr G.N. Jha, Dr Munish Sharma, Dr Amitesh Sharma from KVK Doda were the organizers of the Kissan mela. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr R.S. Bandral Programme Coordinator.
