India downgrade Pakistan ties after Pahalgam attack.

Briefing the media on the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) Meeting, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlines the outcomes of the meeting:

1.𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐲: The landmark 1960 agreement between India and Pakistan has been placed in abeyance with immediate effect. India stated it would remain suspended until Pakistan “credibly and irrevocably” renounces support for cross-border terrorism.

2. 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭: Effective immediately, the check post will be closed. Only those with valid endorsements who crossed before May 1, 2025, will be considered exceptions.

3. 𝐒𝐀𝐀𝐑𝐂 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬: Travel under the SAARC Visa Exemption (SVE) scheme has been revoked for all Pakistani citizens. Existing visas are cancelled, and those currently in India under this arrangement must leave within 48 hours.

4. 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: All defence, naval, military, and air advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata and given one week to depart. India will reciprocally withdraw its military attaches from Islamabad, effectively annulling these diplomatic roles.

5. 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Both nations’ diplomatic missions will reduce staff strength from 55 to 30 by May 1.
