IndiGo Flight 6E2142 Makes Emergency Landing in Srinagar After Severe Turbulence Damages Aircraft Nose

Flight 6E2142, operated by an Airbus A320 (registration VT-IMD), was carrying 227 passengers. According to airport officials, the pilot declared an emergency with Air Traffic Control at Srinagar (ATC SXR) after the aircraft flew through inclement weather conditions while descending into the Kashmir Valley.

The aircraft landed safely at Srinagar Airport at approximately 1830 hours. All passengers and crew members on board were unharmed, though visibly shaken by the ordeal.

An eyewitness who was on the flight told a local news agency, “It was a near-death experience. We were returning home to Srinagar when the turbulence began. The aircraft shook violently, and passengers started to panic. When we landed, we saw that the front of the plane was badly damaged.”

Photographs taken on the ground show clear damage to the aircraft’s radome, a section at the nose of the plane that houses weather radar equipment, confirming the extent of the hail impact.
