Udhampur Encounter SOG Jawan Martyred, Two Injured.

A policeman was killed, and a terrorist is believed to have been injured during a gunfight in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening, officials said. The encounter occurred in the village of Soan in Majalta, following intelligence about the presence of suspected militants.

The exchange of fire began when a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police, along with Army and CRPF personnel, came into contact with the militants. Security forces quickly established a cordon around the area to prevent any escape and ensure public safety.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, said the operation was launched after receiving precise information regarding the likely presence of militants believed to be associated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed group. Reinforcements have been deployed, and security forces are maintaining close vigilance as the search continues.

The policeman sustained fatal injuries during the firefight. Officials indicated that one of the militants is believed to have been injured in the initial exchange, though details are still being verified.

Authorities have blocked all routes out of the area and are working to neutralise any remaining threat. Updates on the operation and its outcomes are expected as security forces continue their efforts to ensure the safety of residents in the region.
