Two Western Disturbances in quick succession most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas during 22–24th January 2026 (Intense) and 26th (Night) – 28th (Forenoon) January 2026 (Moderate). Under the influence of these systems, widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall is expected with heavy rainfall/snowfall at few places, with main activity on 23rd January and 27th January 2026.

The system during 22–24th January, with peak activity on 23rd January, is most likely to cause heavy rainfall/snowfall over Pir Panjal Range, including Chenab Valley of Jammu Division and middle & higher reaches of South Kashmir (Anantnag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Shopian, Pir Ki Gali, Gulmarg, Sonamarg–Zojila axis, Bandipora–Razdan Pass and Kupwara–Sadhna Pass, Doda, Udhampur, Reasi, Kishtwar and Ramban).

The system during 26–28th January, with peak activity on 27th January, is most likely to cause moderate to heavy rainfall/snowfall over Pir Panjal Range, including Chenab Valley of Jammu Division and middle & higher reaches of South Kashmir.

Probable Impact:

This may lead to disruption of surface and air transport, including Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and other major roads of middle & higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

Travelers/Tourists/Transporters are advised to plan accordingly in view of inclement weather.

People in snow-bound areas are asked to avoid venturing into sloppy and avalanche-prone areas.

Farmers are advised to suspend irrigation, fertilizer and chemical spray activities during the above period.

Possibility of landslides/mudslides/gusty winds (40–60 KMPH) at vulnerable places.
