J&K Govt rolls back November session for Winter zone schools

The Jammu and Kashmir government announced on Wednesday that it would restore the academic session for schools up to the 9th standard in Kashmir to the November-December schedule, reversing the LG-led administration’s “Uniform Academic Policy.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, speaking on the occasion, acknowledged the long-standing demand from students and parents in Kashmir and Jammu’s winter zone to revert to the former examination schedule. He expressed gratitude to Education Minister Sakeena Itoo, who presented the proposal before the cabinet for approval.

“Exams up to the 9th standard will now align with the pre-existing November-December schedule, to be conducted before winter vacations,” Abdullah said. He added that while the schedule for 10th, 11th, and 12th grades remains unchanged for this year, adjustments will be considered next year.

Education Minister Sakeena Itoo confirmed the change, emphasizing its immediate application up to the 9th standard, with potential alignment for higher grades in the future.

The uniform academic calendar, initiated by the Lieutenant Governor-led administration in 2022, aimed to synchronize the academic schedule across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions with the national standard.
