CBI raids Satya Pal Malik’s ex-press secretary’s house in corruption case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently conducting raids at various locations in Delhi-NCR, including the residence of Sunak Bali, former private press secretary to ex-Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik. These raids are part of an investigation into the alleged corruption case involving Reliance Insurance, amounting to Rs 60 crore.

According to Malik, Bali was not an official government employee but rather his personal associate. The case revolves around a health insurance scheme that Malik was allegedly coerced into promoting. During his tenure as the Jammu and Kashmir Governor between August 23, 2018, and October 30, 2019, Malik claimed that he was offered a bribe to expedite the approval of certain files.

The CBI had previously registered a case related to this matter and conducted raids in six states last year. On March 23, 2022, the CBI received a letter from Dr Mohammad Usman Khan, Deputy Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, regarding irregularities in awarding a contract for the Employees Health Care Insurance Scheme to Reliance General Insurance Corporation Limited.

“The allegations mentioned in the written communication suggest that unidentified officials from the Finance Department of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, in collusion with Trinity Reinsurance Brokers Ltd., Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd., and other unidentified public servants, committed the offenses of Criminal Conspiracy and Criminal Misconduct to financially benefit themselves. They caused wrongful losses to the state exchequer during the period of 2017 and 2018 and thereby defrauded the Government of Jammu and Kashmir,” stated a source from the CBI.
