Jammu Srinagar National Highway Traffic Update on 03-02-2017

Today on 02.02.2017, movement of traffic on NHW-1A as per one-way traffic plan was scheduled from Jammu towards Srinagar side. Due to triggering of a massive landslide at Mehar, Ramban the NHW was blocked as a result of which movement of all sort of traffic from Jammu to valley and Doda region got affected. Due to continuous sliding at the above said location, large portion of the road is covered with huge piles of muck. Notwithstanding continuous clearing by the concerned road maintenance agency, the road could not be thrown open for traffic. Though the efforts vis-à-vis making the road traffic worthy, yet huge sized boulders and presence of large chunk of muck gives tough time to the road maintenance agency in road clearance process, which however is going on.

In view of the above, no movement of fresh traffic either from Jammu or Srinagar shall be allowed on Jammu-Srinagar NHW tomorrow on 03.02.2017 keeping in view the security/ safety of drivers/passengers. However, subject to fair weather and good condition of road, the vehicles stranded between Udhampur – Jawahar Tunnel shall be cleared and allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations.

Moreover, keeping in view the safety/ security of the drivers/passengers and keeping in view the prediction of rain/snowfall, commuters are requested/advised that no vehicles are parked between Jawahar Tunnel South portal to Nowgam village and between Jawahar Tunnel North portal to Lower Munda under any circumstances. These areas being dangerous and avalanche zones should be kept free from any kind of traffic.
