Safety Advisory for general public on the eve of Diwali

In order to ensure a safe and joyful Diwali and to avoid occurrence of any mishap during Diwali celebrations, the general public is advised to take certain safety precautions, as detailed below, while lighting of lamps and bursting of crackers and shall follow the Dos and DONTs:-

DOs:

1. Buy crackers from licensed vendors only.

2. While purchasing, check cracker packaging for safety certifications.

3. Read instructions before bursting crackers.

4. Burst crackers in open spaces, away from buildings.

5. Keep water and fire extinguishers nearby.

6. Wear protective clothing (gloves, goggles and shoes) while bursting crackers and avoid loose and synthetic clothes.

7. Ensure prevention of entry of any fire cracker inside the buildings.

8. Light crackers in a safe and stable position.

9. Tie your hair while bursting the crackers

10. Keep children and pets at a safe distance.

11. Dispose of used crackers responsibly.

12. Follow local noise pollution regulations.

13. The children shall be taught proper and handling of crackers and shall be allowed to burst crackers under adult supervision.

14. The children shall be kept away from direct sounds of crackers.

15. In case of cracker related injuries use following First Aid tips.

a. Burns: cool with water, apply antibiotic ointment.

b. Cuts: Apply pressure, clean with antiseptic.

c. Eye injuries: Flush with water, seek medical help.

d. Hearing damage: Seek medical attention.

DON’Ts:

1. Don’t burst fire crackers without reading instructions;

2. Don’t burst crackers near hospitals, schools, or animal shelters.

3. Avoid bursting crackers in crowded areas.

4. Never hold crackers in hand while lighting.

5. Don’t point crackers at people or animals.

6. Refrain from bursting crackers near flammable materials.

7. Don’t light the Diyas near exposed electric wires, curtains etc.

8. Don’t allow children to burst crackers unsupervised.

9. Avoid wearing loose and synthetic clothing near cracKers.

10. Don’t burst crackers indoors or in enclosed spaces.

11. Never try to relight failed crackers and don’t fiddle with the un burst crackers.

12. Don’t throw crackers at others.
