Srinagar Court Sentenced man six month imprisonment for Thar Modification.

In accordance with Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 (MV Act), a Jammu & Kashmir court sentenced a man to six months in prison on Friday [UT of Jammu & Kashmir v/s Adil Farooq Bhat]. This included adding a high car siren to his Mahindra Thar vehicle.

Adil Farooq Bhat, the violator, was later granted probation under the Probation of Offenders Act in exchange for posting a bond in the amount of Rs. 2 lakh for maintaining good moral character for a term of two years.

The Additional Director General of Police for Traffic (J&K) was also directed by the court to take harsh punishment against anyone who modifies a vehicle outside the law.

The Court emphasised that no motor vehicle may be modified or altered from its original location in violation of the terms of the Motor Vehicle Act and without the authorization of the relevant authority. This is in accordance with section 52 of the MV Act.

The Court also outlined the justifications behind such adjustments.

The Court stated that there are primarily two reasons why people break the law: first, a lack of awareness, and second, a lack of harsh action against the offenders. As a result, it is crucial to educate the public on the issue while also taking the necessary legal action against the offenders.
