Mamleshwar Temple, Pahalgam Srinagar

. With its origin dating back to AD 400, this temple has been an important place of pilgrimage in the region for decades.

Lord Shiva is the main deity worshipped in this ancient temple. It is situated upwards a mountain that lies along the banks of the glacial Kolahoi stream. The temple premises have an old shrine, which was decorated with pure gold during the reign of an erstwhile king.



According to mythological legends associated with this temple, Lord Ganesha was appointed as its doorkeeper to prevent the entry of outsiders. This is how the temple got its name – comprising words ‘mam mal’ that means ‘do not go’. Owing to its religious significance, the temple is visited by devotees throughout the year, especially during summers and holiday season
