TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR

From 31-07-2026, 1500 hrs to 01-08-2026, 1600 hrs, Jammu–Srinagar NHW remained closed for 21 hours due to restoration work between Jakheni (Udhampur District) and Banihal (Ramban District).

In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.

In view of the extensive damage to NH-44 at Digdole Tawi Nallah due to the likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to avoid journey on NH-44 between Nashri (Jammu) and Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund) to avoid screening at Lamber (Banihal).

Local commuters travelling in private vehicles towards Srinagar are advised to use the old road via Jawahar Tunnel to avoid screening at Lamber (Banihal).

Similarly, commuters travelling to Batote, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and adjoining areas are advised to use the old road via Patnitop while travelling from Jammu.

Passenger LMV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal and the ongoing 8th Arm NH / traffic movement causing inconvenience to commuters.

Goods carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per advisory issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time as the HMVs shall be allowed to ply on alternate days only.

Fruit growers/load carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh perishable produce from Valley towards Jammu are advised to load and park their vehicles in a timely manner (every morning before 8:00 AM) at designated places near Navyug Tunnel and Levdoora on the day of down convoy so that their movement can be facilitated smoothly.

HMV operators/drivers are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during the journey on Jammu–Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journeys.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone prone areas.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 02-07-2026

Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions:

  • BANJY convoy / LMVs (Passenger/Private Cars) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 via cut-off timings.
  • However, HMVs (load carriers) shall be allowed on alternate days.
  • TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing traffic.

Cut-off Timings for LMVs (Passenger/Private Cars)

To be released from:

  • Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar: 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs
  • Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar: 0800 hrs to 1300 hrs
  • Qazigund towards Jammu: 1130 hrs to 1730 hrs

TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut-off timings. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before or after cut-off timings.

HMV/Load Carriers

Subject to fair weather, better road conditions and assessment of prevailing traffic situation on NH-44, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar. No HMV shall be allowed to move after 1800 hrs. TCU Udhampur shall coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing HMVs.

HMV-44, Udhampur division has loaded all empty tankers of Petrol, Diesel, LPG Bulk Gas, all trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders, all empty vehicles of FCI and empty Mughal Road vehicles returning to Jammu. Further, any other vehicle up to 10 tyres carrying perishable commodities shall use Mughal Road on the days when up convoy for HMVs is scheduled on NH-44.

Army/BSF Convoy Movement

Army and other BSF vehicles are to plan their movement after BANJY convoy movements, keeping in view the daily traffic advisory, in such a manner that their convoys are spatially distanced (following convoy at safe maintaining site distance) without hampering the movement of commuters on NH-44.

Kishtwar – Sinthan – Anantnag NH-244

Subject to fair weather and road conditions, passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timings.

SSG Road

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions:

  • LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides.
  • HMVs carrying essentials shall be allowed.
  • HMVs carrying fresh perishable goods and empty vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and vice versa on alternate days.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and road maintenance:

  • Vehicle movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres only) shall be allowed from both sides.
  • No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
